Truckers and fleet management heads will come together at the 33rd Annual Walcott Truckers Jamboree this month to celebrate the trucking industry at the Iowa 80 Truckstop. The event will include an antique truck display, a porkchop cookout, carnival games, live country music, trucker olympics and fireworks.

The trucker olympics exhibit enables attendees to participate in simulated Olympic and Paralympic sports such as 10-meter springs, wheelchair races, shot-put and discus throws. Members of the trucking and transportation industry will be in attendance, sharing the latest technology and innovations to be introduced into the field.

Cobra Electronics is planning giveaways, raffles and other activities for the jamboree to show their appreciation for commercial drivers and their families.

"Professional truckers have been a critically important part of our business and our success for more than 50 years now, and many of them are our biggest supporters and advocates," said Sally Washlow, senior vice president of marketing and sales for Cobra Electronics. "We owe a great deal of gratitude to these great people and this industry, and we are looking forward to seeing all of them in Iowa this week."

The National Transportation Safety Board recently released the 2011 transportation fatality statistics.

As the start date for the proposed regulation that would mandate the use of electronic onboard recorders (EOBR) looms closer, suppliers are coming forward to support the initiative and explain the many benefits that this technology can offer to the nation's trucking fleets.

After the nation avoided the fiscal cliff at the close of 2012, trucking experts believe that the industry will see favorable conditions in 2013.

The University of the Aftermarket recently announced that it will again offer its Heavy Duty Leadership program to foster comprehensive leadership development in 2013.
