Many major U.S. trucking companies are looking for qualified drivers with CDL training to fill their vacancies as the businesses continue to expand.

Holland trucking company is looking to add 450 qualified over-the-road and local drivers to cover the Midwest region throughout the summer months. The company  has launched major recruitment efforts in several key locations to acquire new talent. Recruitment events have been spotted in South Bend, Indiana; Chicago and Wheeling, Illinois; and Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Trucking Info reported.

The demand for new drivers comes as orders for Holland's next-day delivery services continue to rise. Holland is anticipating further growth throughout the summer, and is continuously adding new drivers and updating equipment to keep up with demand, Trucking Info reported.

Some trucking companies have a specific demographic in mind when recruiting new drivers. Carolina WPDE reported Pennsylvania company Mawson and Mawson is looking for military veterans to haul its products. Mawson and Mawson is the oldest 18-wheeler trucking company, in operation for the past 120 years. The company is now opening up its vacancies to veterans from the Armed Forces to help increase their employment rate.

The National Transportation Safety Board recently released the 2011 transportation fatality statistics.

As the start date for the proposed regulation that would mandate the use of electronic onboard recorders (EOBR) looms closer, suppliers are coming forward to support the initiative and explain the many benefits that this technology can offer to the nation's trucking fleets.

After the nation avoided the fiscal cliff at the close of 2012, trucking experts believe that the industry will see favorable conditions in 2013.

The University of the Aftermarket recently announced that it will again offer its Heavy Duty Leadership program to foster comprehensive leadership development in 2013.
